The Fate of the House Remains Uncertain
By TMO STAFF
As the general election wrapped with a majority favoring the Republican Party, national House seats are still being decided. At this time, both the Senate and White House have been declared conservative, the House has yet to be declared a side.
The remaining results will determine the GOP margin within the lower chamber. Right now, 52 seats are being controlled in the Senate by Republicans. In the House, many of the undecided seats are in the state of California. The Golden State has rules requiring mail-in ballots to be postmarked by election day, and then county officials need to get the ballots seven days after the election. Therefore, the results are still being tallied.
California’s ninth congressional district, 13th, 21st, 22nd, 41st, 45th,47th,and 49th districts are being counted.
There are seven states where the winners of congressional races still need to be finalized. House Speaker Mike Johnson will maintain his position. Alaska’s results are being tallied with GOP Nick Begich leading against his opponent Democrat Rep. Mary Peltola. He is as of November 12th winning by over 10,000 votes, which is nearly 71 percent of the estimated vote total which has been reported. Alaska uses a ranked-choice voting system. Therefore, voters would select various candidates and then rank them according to their preferences.
Meanwhile, Arizona’s sixth congressional district is up for grabs with Republican Juan Ciscomani leading against Democrat Kirsten Engel. This race could be a toss-up race which means that the Republican party would most likely win Arizona. On the other hand, Iowa’s first Congressional District is shaping up to be a race that’s too close to call. It’s between Republican Representative Mariannette Miller-Meeks and Democrat Christina Bohannan. The GOP is leading in this state as well.
Maine’s 2nd Congressional District is leading more Democrat and Ohio’s tallying results of the ninth congressional district is suggesting that Democrat Marcy Kaptur is leading the region. Lastly, Oregon’s 5th Congressional District is also leaning more Democratic. But, results may vary as they slowly trickle in.
