These were the words of Immediate Past President and now the Member Board of Directors of NEDA-TX Houston Chapter Mohammad Munawar.
He was speaking at the long awaited “Networking Dinner” of the Alumni of NED University of the Greater Houston Region, under the umbrella of NEDA-TX, at a Sugar Land Texas Restaurant. More than 70 NED Alumni attended the event with their families and events. Oldest Alumni in attendance was the famous comedy poet Mulick Saeedi (1955), while latest was a young lady (2011). NEDians from all the decades since 1950s were present. Each of the Alumni was asked to briefly introduce themselves.
Program started with the recitation of Quran. Talented Emcee of the evening was famous entrepreneur and social figure of Houston Engineer Shamshad Wali.
Talking at this occasion, Founder & Patron of NEDA Texas Engineer Afzaal Hafeez apprised all the attendees that exactly one year ago, the NEDA Texas – Dallas Chapter got started, so it is pleasing to see more than seventy NEDians with their families to have gathered for this historic networking event of NEDA-TX Houston Chapter.
He informed the names of the Board Members of NEDA-TX Houston Chapter, namely himself Afzaal Hafeez (Chairman Board of Directors); & Directors Khalid Aziz; Mohammad Munawar; Adil Rizvi; Tufail Khan; and Alia Haroon.
He added: “We will be organizing Picnics, Seminars, Mushaira, Annual Dinner, and later on once we are more organized the Alumni International Convention. We want everyone to generously contribute towards the NEDian ALumni Endowment Fund, so as to be participate in making NEDUET a much better world-class University.”
Ilyas Hasan Choudry, Director of Programs of major NGO Helping Hand For Relief & Development (HHRD), who is also a NEDian, spoke about the importance of NEDA, being a solid platform of socialization & networking among the NEDians& their families, assisting new engineers coming from Pakistan to USA, helping fellow NEDians to come out of odd jobs, facilitating the engineers from USA to take new ideas of infrastructure development & technology back to Pakistan, aiding with the enhancement of educational tools, laboratories & scientific equipment in NED so as to improve the standards of the alma mater, and much more.
It must be noted that the NED University of Engineering and Technology, (NEDUET) is a public research university located in the urban area of Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan.
It is one of the oldest institution of higher learning in Pakistan, and is noted for its strong emphasis on higher learning in science and technology. Founded in 1922 as a technical college to provide training to civil engineers working in building the Sukkur Barrage, the university came to its modern form in 1977, when it got the status of University.
The university is named for its benefactor, donor, and philanthropist, Nadirshaw Eduljee Dinshaw by the government.
