Muslim Organizations Call For ‘Eid Celebrations To Avoid 9-11

The Executive committee of the CMO calls upon all of its 147 member Islamic Centers, schools and organizations, in remembrance of the thousands of our neighbors of all faiths who lost their lives in the tragic attack on our country, to not hold their Eid celebrations on Saturday, September 11th 2010.

As we conclude the blessed month of Ramadan we reflect upon the sorrow and sacrifice of our fellow Americans.  For many American Muslims the day of  Eid Al-Fitr (Congregational prayer commemorating the end of the Ramadan fasting month) will be Friday, September 10th 2010.  While we recognize that some mosques and Islamic centers started fasting a day later and therefore might be religiously obligated to make the prayer of Eid Al-Fitr on Saturday, Sept 11th 2010, we are humbly requesting that you perform your prayers on that day but delay your community celebration to a later day.

As American Muslims we continue to stand against terrorism in all of its forms and faithfully rededicate ourselves to the service of mankind standing for justice and equality for all people of good will.  We wish to send a clear message of unity and peaceful coexistence to the world that on this day of Eid Al-Fitr we stand united with our faith and our nation.

We wish you all a blessed Eid Mubarak and pray that we will continue with firm faith in Allah (God) and in the tradition of the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him.

We encourage all people of good-will to join us on Sunday, Sept 12th 2010 at 1:30pm for The 911 Unity Walk.  The Unity Walk begins at the Washington Sikh Temple located at 3801 Massachusetts Avenue NW, Washington, DC.  

Although, Eid Al-Fitr is a happy day, let us take time on Sept 11to think about the state of our world and the need for world peace.  Let us at this time of fasting and feasting recommit ourselves to service to our faith, our community and our nation.
