Dr. Saiyid M. Shah Receives Golden Hoosier Award
Dr. Saiyid M. Shah recently received the statewide Golden Hoosier Award – the highest honor bestowed upon a senior citizen by the State of Indiana. The Golden Hoosier Award is a collaboration between the Office of Lieutenant Governor and the Family Social Services Administration Division of Aging. It acknowledges those seniors who serve other Hoosiers in an exemplary manner and dedicate their lives to bettering the community in which they live.
He has been a Diagnostic Radiation Physicist and the Radiation Safety Officer for St. Mary’s since January of 1984. The 72-year-old retired from the Evansville Cancer Center in October of 2008, but continues to provide services at St. Mary’s Hospital on a part-time basis.He earned his Ph.D. from Texas Tech University in 1970. He is Board Certified from both the American Board of Radiology and the American Board of Medical Physics.
As a member of the Scientific Exchange Committee of the American Association of Physicists (AAPM), Dr. Shah has been actively involved in the education and training of medical physicists in developing countries since 1990. He has been the course director and faculty member of workshops organized by the AAPM in Pakistan, Turkey and the Philippines and has also served as the President of the Ohio Valley Chapter of the AAPM.
Dr. Shah is a board member of the Muslim Alliance of Indiana and a life-long volunteer of the Islamic Society of North America. He is also a local member of the World Food Program Chapter.
