Israeli Forces Kill Two More Palestinians in West Bank Raids
By Yousuf Ali
Israeli forces killed 2 Palestinians in the West Bank in the latest of a series of Deadly raids in occupied Palestinian territories which have escalated since last year on Feb. 14.
According to Al Jazeera, “Mahmoud Majed Mohammad al-Ayedi, 17, was shot and killed by the Israeli army on Tuesday morning during a raid on the Far’a refugee camp in the governorate of Tubas in the northern occupied West Bank. The Palestinian Ministry of Health said al-Ayedi was shot in the head during the raid.”
Additionally, the broader context is that Israel has occupied the West Bank and Gaza strip since the 1967 war and has sent hundreds of thousands of settlers to live on internationally recognized Palestinian land with the full protection of the Israeli military. Additionally, one victim of Israeli raids shot in 2021 succumbed to his wounds on the same day. Previous raids were caught on video and show Israeli forces killing Palestinians who are defenseless.
Despite Israeli claims that it is targeting terrorists, there is evidence indicating otherwise plus the broader context of its continuing violent occupation of Palestine.
According to Al Jazeera, “Separately on Tuesday, 25-year-old Haroun Abu Aram succumbed to Israeli army gunshot wounds he sustained on January 1, 2021, in Masafer Yatta, in the Hebron area of the southern occupied West Bank, where close to 1,000 residents are facing the threat of imminent forced displacement by Israel. The health ministry said Abu Aram’s gunshot wound “led to quadriplegia (paralysis from the neck down), and the blockage of his leg arteries, which led to his leg being amputated, and severe ulcers in his leg and pelvis, as well as infections in his lungs”.
This case prompted international outcry and condemnation. Israel demolished Abu Aram’s home a month before shooting him. The raids have gotten worse since the beginning of the most right-wing government in Israeli history. All the while, United States aid continues unfettered despite occasional expressions of disagreement from the American government with Israeli actions.
