Najma Ghouse: Serving Texas
By Beena Inam
Najma Ghouse, a realtor and former medical technologist of Carrollton, TX, is running in the city council elections for Place 6 position.
Ghouse’s leadership skills, qualities, commitment and keen interest in social services have already proven her a success for the Muslim community.
Ghouse said, “I will serve with an unwavering commitment. I am committed to safe neighborhoods, clean air, destination Carrollton, quality of life and sustainability of Carrollton’s growth.â€
She added, “You can count on me to devote my time and efforts towards achieving that goal. I plan to reach out and get every segment of our community involved.â€
Her active involvement in many organizations and commitment to assist disadvantaged women shows a deep promise for Muslims.
“First I helped myself, than I helped my family, friends, and community. Now it is time to progress and get involved in helping the city,†said Ghouse.
She was one of the founding members of the Texas Muslim Women Foundation (TMWF), whose objective is to support Muslim women and their families through educational, charitable and social services.
The free health clinic, Islamic Association of North Texas (IANT) in Richardson Central Mosque, shows Ghouse’s dedication in serving the Muslim community. She initiated the process of serving people who do not have health insurance or are unable to pay the high cost of medical needs.
Ghouse said that she worked 25 years as a Medical Technologist but she wanted to unwind and spend more time with her family so she switched to the less demanding but people-oriented business of real estate, which she has done for about 10 years.
Ghouse came to the U.S. in 1973, after completing her Masters in Biochemistry from Karachi University. Since then, she and her family have been in the Dallas Metropolitan area along with her mother, sisters, brothers, their families and grandchildren who altogether make 55 members in the family. She has 5 grandchildren.
The special Carrollton City Council election will take place on December 5, 2006, with early voting from November 20 to December 1.
Make your vote count. Encourage Muslims to come forward and make their identity known. On November 7, the people of Minnesota elected Keith Ellison to the US Congress.
People like Keith and Najma are our pioneers–proving themselves with their hard work and determination.
