Newcastle United and Manchester City are among the clubs eyeing up Paris St Germain defender Mamadou Sakho for a possible transfer next month. The French international is felt to have dim prospects at PSG despite being a fan favorite, having been born in the city and come through the club since the age of six.
A French defender of Senegalese descent, Sakho is thought to be unhappy with the lack playing time, as Brazilian center-back Alex and Thiago Silva seem to have taken over the starting full back spots at PSG. However, Alex’s recent thigh injury has resulted in Sakho winning his place back. Sakho had been told he could leave PSG in the summer but wanted to stay and fight for his place.
Sakho had been offered to clubs by his representatives, a list that is thought to included Newcastle, Man City, Arsenal, Lille and AC Milan. PSG are now on a winter break until January 13 and they will assess the situation over the holidays. He is known for his leadership skills, his non-stop motor, his tireless work ethic, and his tackling ability. He has made 14 appearances this season for PSG, and 10 career appearance for the French national team.
PSG manager Carlo Ancelloti told the press: “He can’t understand my decision to leave him out but that is logical. He is not in a position to leave. He will stay because he is an important player.†If Ancelloti had his druthers, the deal would wait until next summer. But with Sakho clamoring for playing time, Ancelotti could have no choice but to let the £10million-rated player go during the January transfer window.
