Mosque lends space for church service
SACRAMENTO,CA– When a Church in Sacramento couldn’t renew its lease last week it turned to a mosque for help. The Spiritual Life Center’s leaders approached a mosque to lend its space for Easter services. The Sacramento Area League of Associated Muslims (SALAM) mosque readily agreed and the services were held.
“I am so grateful to their open-heartedness and their generosity and really living and demonstrating the spirit of Islam, which is peace,†said Rev. Michael Moran of The Spiritual Life Center in an interview to the press.
Dr. Irfan Haq of SALAM said he also hoped to promote peace by offering up their worship space.
“We are all children of Abraham,†he said. “We need to create a better world, a world of peace, a world of love; and a way people accept each other, enjoy each other, interact with one another, and build a better planet.â€
Norwalk mosque hearing postponed
NORWALK,CT–The Norwalk Zoning Commission has postponed until April the continuation of a public hearing on a plan by Al-Madany Islamic Center of Norwalk to build a new mosque. The proposal calls for constructing a 27,000-square-foot building that would include a prayer hall and community center/gymnasium on the 1.6-acre property. It has received both opposition and support from the larger community. Many faith leaders have supported the plan.
Some neighbors say the proposed building is too large for the property and would create unacceptable levels of traffic.
According to city officials the next meeting will be held at the Concert Hall to accomodate the public that may want to attend.
