APPNA Michigan Chapter Fall/Winter Meeting

Physicians of Pakistani Descent, MI chapter held their annual fall banquet at the Dearborn Inn on Friday the 30th of November. It was attended by a large number of physicians. A discussion about “The changes in Health Care” started promptly at 6:30 pm. It was conducted by Dr. Farhan Khan who invited two experts in this field who answered the questions from the audience. After the meeting the guests gathered in the ball room for dinner and presentations. The evening started with recitation of Quran by Billal Ikram which was followed by national anthems of United States and Pakistan. The MC for the evening, Dr. Sakina Hakim, introduced Dr Sohail Jilani who informed the audience about the APPNA/ TCF charitable school project. A charitable school was built in Pakistan by the funds donated by APPNA MI CHAPTER last year. Later on he invited Mr Daniyal Noorani to talk about the vision of TCF and the noble work done by this organization in the field of education in Pakistan. He was followed by Mr. Ron Thompson who talked wealth management and estate planning for Muslim Physicians. After that Dr Alamgir Khan introduced the “ APPNA HOUSE” project which helps provide affordable living facilities for young graduates and medical students coming from Pakistan.

Mrs. Jabeen Bukhari, the president of APPNA ALLIANCE MI, presented her annual report and thanked all those who supported her during her two year tenure as Predident of APPNA ALLIANCE MI. Dr. Iftikhar Habib, the secretary of APPNA MI, presented the financial report of the last year. Dr. Adil Akhtar, president of APPNA MI, thanked family, friends and colleagues for coming to the dinner and highlighted the community work done by APPNA MI in the year 2012.Later on the Pioneer Awards were awarded to Dr Salik Jahania, Dr Asim Mehmood and Dr Ghous Malik.

The lifetime achievement award for the year 2012 was presented to Dr Zaheer Ahmad who founded the APPNA organization almost 36 years ago. His son Ajmal Zaheer gave a rousing speech and introduced his friend, his father who was presented the APPNA MI CHAPTER LIFETIME AWARD 2012 by Dr Ehan ul Haq and Dr Adil Akhtar.

The guests enjoyed dinner and musical performance by Farhan Zaidi of Sa Re Ga Ma fame.
