LONG ISLAND, NY–For observant Muslims the challenge the task of performing wudu in work places in the West has been a challenging one. But now institutions are reacting to their needs by making their facilities more accessible. Universities were the first ones to do so.
Last month, the Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New Hyde Park opened a Wudu room to cater to its Muslim users. It may be the very first such facility in the country.
“This will allow Muslim visitors and patients to prepare for prayer through purification of the face, hands and feet,” according to a news release.
An estimated four percent of the hospital’s patient population is Muslim.
