University of Alabama junior center Moussa Gueye matched his season high with 5 blocked shots to spur a victory over defending NCAA men’s basketball champion the University of Kentucky 59-55. The 7 foot, 255 pound Gueye also contributed 4 points and 5 rebounds in 18 minutes of playing time against Kentucky. He had previously suffered a torn Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) in his knee in August. As a result, he missed the first 12 games of the season while recovering from ACL repair surgery. He ultimately returned to action just 125 days after his surgery.
Gueye was born in Dakar, Senagal. He is the son of the late Alioune Gueye and Lissoune Ly Sall. He was enrolled last year at Lake Land College in Matoon, Illinois, but he did not play at all as a result of injury. Nonetheless, he was still considered by all recruiting services to be of the top junior college centers in the nation. Rivals.com rated him as a four-star prospect. In his first season at Lake Land College he was named the conference’s freshman of the year and averaged 10.3 points, 8.7 rebounds and 3.5 blocked shots per game.
