Mosque wins court case
ORLEANS COUNTY, NY–A mosque in Orleans County has won a ruling in its favor over a property dispute. The State Supreme Court ruled that the mosque property belongs to the World Sufi Foundation and not to the Imam.
The mosque property was bought in the name of the Imam in 1970 as apparently his credit rating was good according to the Democrat and Chronicle. The problem arose in 2004 when the Imam divorced and there was a dispute over the distribution of assets. The Imam transferred the property to the mosque in 2007. His former wife then sued claiming that the transfer was fraudulent.
The Supreme Court ruling, siding with the mosque, which came last month came as a much needed relief to the congregants who now can worship in peace.
