Letter to the Editor

Dr. Nakadar:

It was gratifying to see you and the Muslim Observer represented at the Michigan Muslim Community Council and American Jewish Committee event earlier this month in Dearborn, where Muslims and Jews committed to greater mutual understanding and outreach to each other’s community. So we were especially dismayed to see your newspaper publish a commentary last week that made untruthful and outrageous claims that clearly incite Muslim hatred against Jews. Specifically:

“Palestinian students must risk…even death to study in the United States” and “There will come a day when…even students at Hillel will no longer…defend…the random murder of Palestinians [by Israelis].”  – Chris Hedges

You have a responsibility to your readers, your community (and to the Jewish community) to set at least a minimal level of truthfulness and civility in anything you publish.
