Study Documents American Muslim Entrepreneurship

A study released last year by the Strategic Research Circle reveals some great insights into American Muslim entrepreneurship for the first time. It has tallied 81,000 Muslim-owned businesses in the US and half of them are located in New York, Chicago, and Houston.

Around half of Muslim dentists and physicians are located in New York and Chicago. The data tabulated in the study shows that around two percent (23,000) Muslims in the total US population of physicians. Nearly eighty percent of Muslim owned or managed pharmacies are located in New York.

The study also found that sixty five percent of Muslim attorneys are practising in New York, Chicago, and Washington D.C.

There are around 8,000 Muslim owned or managed restaurants in the US and majority of them are located in Chicago and New York.

Interestingly, it found that there are 900 service stations in Houston that were owned or managed by Muslims. The report didn’t explain the reason behind this statistic.
Such insights will be revealed in a second instalment of the report which according to the SRC will probably be published in eight to nine months.
