CIOGC Commends Local Media

This past week, on May 8, the Council held a press conference to add Chicago Muslims’ voices to the global condemnation against the kidnappings of nearly 300 girls in Nigeria.

The Council along with the Nigerian Islamic Association declare that labeling Boko Haram (the culprits behind the kidnappings) as an Islamic group is offensive to Muslims as they do not represent Islamic values. Both groups also urge leaders to make greater efforts to have the girls safely returned to their families.

We commend all the major media outlets including ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, WBBM, WTTW, The Chicago Tribune, and Chicago Tonight who showed their eagerness to cover the story and report on this crisis.
