“The Citizen” Opening in AMC Theater of Dearborn
By Noor H. Salem, TMO
On Sunday, October 6th 2013 the AMC theater of Dearborn had the opening day for the trial period of the movie The Citizen. It’s only a five day trial, which will play in the decision of whether or not the film will play nationwide. More than sixty people filled the room on Sunday evening, one of many shows playing daily. The director Sam Kadi appeared at the end of the film to thank the audience for coming and supporting the film. He reminded everyone to spread the word to friends and family.
It was special enough that the new release movie The Citizen is about the life of a Muslim American and was inspired by many true stories. Better yet, the producer is a brother from our local city of Canton, MI. The film outlines the story of Ibrahim Jarrah, who comes from the Middle East leaving behind a difficult life. He arrives in the U.S. right before the 9/11 attacks, only to face more challenges as a Muslim in the country.
It’s only been a few weeks since the film released, and they’ve reached more than 15,000 likes on Facebook. The trial period will run until Thursday October 10 so if you get a chance, make sure to drop by and watch it.
