NJ Mosque proposal faces opposition
BERNARDS TOWNSHIP,NJ–A proposal to construct a mosque in New Jersey’s Bernards Township faced vocal opposition at a Planning Board meeting on March 17. The Islamic Society of Basking Ridge (ISBR), is seeking to raze a house on 4.3 acres of land and construct a facility for up to 142 worshippers.
The mosque opponents cite fire hazards, traffic, and impact on property values.
The meeting also saw a few members of the community voicing support for the project.. They urged the board to embrace diversity according to the New Jersey Hills.
The next hearing on the proposal will take place on April 21. It will be the thirtieth on the proposal since 2012.
