Muslim Ms. Marvel’s Love Erases Geller’s Hate

SAN FRANCISCO – Rejecting racist anti-Islam ads placed by blogger Pamela Geller on San Francisco buses, someone has started covering them up with anti-hatred messages from Marvel’s première Muslim superhero, Ms. Marvel.
“Some amazing person has been painting over the anti-Muslim bus ads in SF with Ms. Marvel graffiti. Spread love,” Ms. Marvel’s writer, G. Willow Wilson, tweeted on Monday, January 26.
Geller’s new anti-Muslim ad campaign was launched earlier this month in San Francisco.
Purchased by the American Freedom Defense Initiative (AFDI), the bus ads show Adolf Hitler meeting with Palestinian grand mufti of Jerusalem Haj Amin al-Husseini, and the words: “Islamic JewHatred: It’s in the Qur’an.”
Another ads show Osama bin Laden and an image of a victim of the Fort Hood shooting, along with a quote: “Killing Jews is worship that brings us closer to Allah.”
The Islamophobic campaign, in which 50 large hoardings were put on several buses in the area, have been placed a few days after Paris terror attacks that left 17 killed.
The ads have been widely condemned as “racist” and “Islamophobic”.
Rejecting its hateful messages, someone plastered the pictures of Kamala Khan, who became Marvel’s first book-headlining Muslim superhero when she took on the mantle of Ms. Marvel in 2013.
The ads, spotted by Street Cred on Facebook, carried a different message of love including, “Stamp Out Racism” and “Free Speech is not a license to spread hate”.
This month’s AFDI’s ad campaign comes as a part of the group’s anti-Muslims activities that have been widely condemned by the American community.
Last September, the pro-Israel group placed similar anti-Islam ads on New York buses and in Subway stations.
The ads feature an image for James Foley, the American journalist, who was killed by the so-called Islamic State, along with the slogan: “Yesterday’s moderate is today’s headline.”
In May, the group also sponsored bus ads that compare Muslims to Hitler.
Countering hate speech promoted by Washington anti-Islam bus ads, several campaigns and rallies have been organized in Washington and Maryland to present the true-face of Islam.
CAIR has also responded by offering free copies of the Qur’an to anyone who wished to verify the inaccuracy of ADFI’s message.
