Khan Chooses New Manager

Pakistani-British boxing star Amir Khan has signed with powerful manager Al Haymon. Khan, the former 140-pound world titleholder, is preparing for his May 3 welterweight bout with Luis Collazo at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. This fight will be on the undercard of Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s defense of his RING and WBC 147-pound championships against World Boxing Association (WBA) opponent Marcos Maidana.
Haymon will be honored with the 2013 Cus D’Amato Manager of the Year Award, by the Boxing Writer’s Association at its upcoming annual dinner on May 1st, also at the MGM Grand Hotel. Haymon’s list of clients that he has signed just this past year includes Collazo, RING and WBC light heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson, ex-175-pound belt-holder Chad Dawson, IBF 140-pound titleholder Lamont Peterson and his brother, lightweight Anthony Peterson, and now Khan. For actual boxing training, Khan works with Virgil Williams of the San Francisco Bay Area of California.
Haymon’s overall stable of star-studded clients includes Mayweather, Maidana, Danny Garcia, Adrien Broner, Lucas Matthysse, Peter Quillin, Erislandy Lara, Deontay Wilder, Keith Thurman, Shawn Porter, Leo Santa Cruz, Gary Russell Jr., Devon Alexander, Paulie Malignaggi, Chris Arreola, Sakio Bika, Andre Berto, Austin Trout and Edwin Rodriguez.
