IMANA – ISNA 2015 Report
ISNA’s 52nd annual convention, entitled, “Stories of Resilience: Strengthening the American Muslim Narrative” was a great success. The convention was held at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, IL. It was a remarkable conference bringing the Muslim community together with informative sessions by many scholars and guest speakers. The Islamic Medical Association of North America (IMANA) is pleased to contribute to this success in multiple ways. Apart from being a sponsor of the convention, IMANA’s health care sessions attracted great interest, and many benefited from the free health screening and medical advice by IMANA health care professionals. IMANA physicians provided a rare opportunity to aspiring physicians to network and seek advice. IMANA members also enjoyed ISNA’s live entertainment and bazaar.
IMANA shared its dedicated room with AMHP, CCN and others to provide an informative Medical and Health Program with accomplished panelists. IMANA discussed topics ranging from organ transplantation, biomedicine, medical advances, and health care for the underserved. IMANA also provided interactive sessions to discuss women’s health, how to establish a free or low-cost health care clinics and networking opportunities for medical students. IMANA’s 4 hour CME session addressed end of life care and bio ethical decisions. Insha-Allah, next year we will continue to provide health sessions to discuss topics of emerging issues in the context of Muslim life.
We are happy that Compassionate Care partnered with us to provide free health screenings. IMANA First Aid Clinic was staffed by IMANA member physicians and residents to provide care during any emergencies for the attendees at ISNA. Over the course of two days, we provided health services including diabetes screenings, BMI calculations and blood pressure checks. Thanks to all our dedicated volunteers who worked long hours to provide this service and promote good health for the ISNA attendees.
The medical students and physicians networking sessions were very well attended and appreciated by students and physicians alike. Next year, IMANA plans to extend this session within a larger space with dedicated specialties tables to provide more one-to-one mentorship opportunities.
We thank those of you who stopped by the IMANA booth at ISNA; it is always a pleasure to see our dedicated members. Special thanks to all the IMANA presenters for making ISNA another informative year. We couldn’t do it without your support. We look forward to next year’s annual convention.
