The National Football League’s Detroit Lions have claimed safety Isa Abdul-Quddus off waivers from the New Orleans Saints. He still has to pass a physical in Allen Park. Abdul-Quddus was waived on Jan. 7, but the claim process in the NFL didn’t start until this week following the Super Bowl.
The 24-year-old Abdul-Quddus spent the past three seasons as a backup safety and special teams player for the Saints. He’s started four games since joining the Saints in 2011 as an undrafted free agent out of Fordham University. The 6-foot-1, 205-pound free safety started three games in 2012, and has 74 career tackles, two interceptions, three forced fumbles and nine passes defended in 42 career NFL games. Issa is a native of New Jersey, having been born in Newark, New Jersey. He attended and played for Union High School, also in New Jersey.
