Ike Ahmed appointed to Scientific Advisory Board
ScienceBased Health, a leading provider of nutraceuticals for eye health, today announced the appointment of Ike K. Ahmed, MD, FRCSC to its Scientific Advisory Board.
“Dr. Ahmed is internationally recognized for diagnosing and treating highly complex eye diseases,” said Alain Magro, president and CEO of ScienceBased Health. “His accomplishments also include the development of novel glaucoma and cataract microsurgical devices and techniques. We are particularly excited to draw upon his expertise in the field of glaucoma as we continue to examine the role of nutrition in this area.”
Ike K. Ahmed, MD, FRCSC is Assistant Professor, Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Toronto, where he directs research at the Kensington Eye Institute and the Glaucoma and Advanced Anterior Surgical Fellowship program. He has authored a myriad of peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters, and serves on the editorial boards of publications, such as Ophthalmology, Canadian Journal of Ophthalmology and formerly the Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. Dr. Ahmed is the recipient of numerous awards, most recently the 2014 Binkhorst Medal from the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons. In 2010, Dr. Ahmed was selected as one of Canada’s “Top 40 Under 40”. Dr. Ahmed received his doctorate of medicine from the University of Toronto, where he did his medical and surgical internship and ophthalmology residency. He completed a fellowship in glaucoma and anterior segment at the Moran Eye Center, University of Utah, and was later appointed Clinical Assistant Professor.
Muslim students in Gretna to combat hunger
Students at the Muslim Academy in Gretna, Louisiana, are collecting food items to help the hungry in the community. According to a report in the nola.com portal the classes are competing with each other as to which one will raise the most canned food items.
Following the three-weeklong drive, the food will be donated to the Second Harvest Food Bank of New Orleans.Sixth grade homeroom teacher Niran Mousa, organized the food drive under her “Follow the Sunnah” program.
As leader of the group, Mousa said she wants to push her students to be the kindest people they can be.
“I feel that it is very important to contribute to the community in any way. Even more critical is to teach the kids how important it is.
Syed Islam named top chaauffeur
Syed Islam, of South Florida, has been named the 2014 Limousine and Sedan Chauffeur of the Year by the Taxicab, Limousine & Paratransit Association after glowing reviews from customers.
“In all my years, I have never experienced a driver who has received such consistent compliments from his clients,” said Lorraine Celestino Wilde, CEO of GO Airport Shuttle & Executive Car in Fort Lauderdale. “It’s incredible. I have such a stack of letters.”
In one, a client praised Islam’s “diligence and honest concern for his passengers” after the driver made sure his passenger got back the iPod left in the back seat.
