Parvez Ahmed Wins Second Term on Jacksonville Rights Panel
Prof. Parvez Ahmed has been nominated to a second term on Jacksonville’s Human Rights Council. Ahmed, a University of North Florida associate professor of finance, did not attend the meeting, where his reappointment was introduced to the council for the first of at least three readings, according to the Flroda Times Union.
The council’s Rules Committee is expected to take up the reappointment bill (2013-75) next month.
There was an uproar over his appointment three years ago when some critics expressed Islamophobic sentiments. This time also there have been some critics but the controversy is not as intense as the last time. Council President Bill Bishop said he heard nothing new from critics and had no reason to doubt Ahmed.
