PAA Celebrates Pakistan Republic Day

Troy, MI–March 21–The Pakistan Association of America (PAA) hosted over 1,000 people at a Pakistan Republic Day dinner on March 21 at the Troy Hilton.
President Dr. Khalid Rao in his speech said that the Lahore resolution has demonstrated its weaknesses and strength. We must assess it in a positive way for future progress.
PAA wants to alleviate the problems of lagging health care and growing unemployment by providing free medical care, and for this 20 physicians have been employed, with plans to enlarge to 100 physicians by 2010.
He encouraged the Pakistani community to donate in the area of scholarships for higher studies, and himself announced a few new scholarship recipients.
Keynote speaker Thaddeus McCotter (R-MI-11th) said the strength of any country is not in its military, he said, or in its economy or in its manufacturing industries but its true strength lies in its various communities like yours. He appreciated the contributions of Pakistani Americans to USA.
The formation of the PAA board was announced that was followed by musical evening of songs and Ghazals.
