Muslim Family Services
By Adil James, TMO
Dearborn—March 19—One of the most important Muslim community organizations is Muslim Family Services, which held its gala and fundraiser this past Saturday evening at Dearborn’s Hyatt Regency. Perhaps 300 people were present at the gala, which showcased MFS’s many intervention programs that forestall problems relating to poverty and family relations in the Muslim community (but also for non-Muslims). MFS provides family counseling, and a janaza fund to help indigent families pay the estimated $3,000 for burial–MFS speakers told the story of one brother who had died and because his family could not afford to bury him, he remained at the morgue for several weeks before MFS paid for his burial.
MFS is also involved with the Michigan family courts in an advisory capacity.
