Partnering with Colin Fleming of England, she lost to the Czech-Polish pairing of Kveta Peschke and Marcin Matkowski, seeded fourth, 6-3, 7-5 in one hour and nine minutes.

After losing the first set in 25 minutes the Indo-British duo fought back and even broke their opponents’ serve following the loss of a service game. However, another break of serve by the fourth seeds in the last game of the second set sent them to the semifinals.

Mirza was bounced from the women’s doubles draw earlier in the week after she and her partner, American Bethanie Mattek-Sands lost in the third round to the Italian team of Sara Errani and Robera Vinci 6-4, 6-7, 6-3. Mirza and Mattek-Sands were the 13th seeds, while Errani and Vinci were the 2nd seeded team in the women’s draw. The U.S. Open is the final Grand Slam event in the calendar year. The new year begins with the Australian Open in January as its first Grand Slam event.
