Gorgui Dieng Also Thriving in NCAA Tourney

Louisville University sophomore basketball player Gorgui Dieng told his school website that the greatest moment in his athletic career was when his national team qualified for the African Championship and the Olympics. Well, he may have a new answer for future interviewers as he leads the Louisville men’s basketball into the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament.

Dieng was born in 1990 in Kebemer, Senegal, one of eight children of parents Momar Dieng and Seynabou Diagne. He speaks five languages. And in the Round-of-32 game against New Mexico University, the 6 foot 11 inch Dieng primarily spoke with his defense, contributing 6 points, 10 rebounds, 3 blocked shots, and 2 steals

Gorgui enjoys playing video games in his spare time. He currently majors in Sports Administration. And the next item on his schedule is to help his Louisville team “administer” a knockout blow against their next opponent, Michigan State University, in the Round-of16. Dieng once said that the best basketball advice given to him was to make “no excuses and be the best that you can.” You can expect that Gorgui will hold to that sage advice the rest of the way.
